Widgets and Gadets

I've downloaded a cool tool from the making of apple and yahoo,. called widget desktop. It is a tool that enable you to download many usefull widgets (plug-ins) that will retrieve information from the web directly to your desktop.

According to what I have read there are tools simmilar like that to both microsoft and google. Which they both call it gadets.

Google use the tool as google desktop where it apply its gadets on a panel on the side window it opens..

Yet the approach apple and yahoo took is more user friendly as I played with them a bit. The example I pasted onto this blog is a widget that enables you to track NASA ISS (International Space Station) while it rotates above the earth atmosphire.

You can find the widgets desktop on the following url http://widgets.yahoo.com/ . It is an approach to application which apple macintosh took years ago to display desktop applications and it is built in the mac os, back then it was called Konfabulator. Yet today it is being marketed as widgets.
